Trauma
The longer we live, the more inevitable it is that we will experience trauma. Trauma is the response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope, causes feelings of helplessness, diminishes their sense of self and their ability to feel the full range of emotions and experiences.
There are three main types of trauma:
  • Acute trauma results from a single incident.
  • Chronic trauma is repeated and prolonged such as domestic violence or abuse.
  • Complex trauma is exposure to varied and multiple traumatic events, often of an invasive, interpersonal nature.

There is no cure for trauma nor any quick fixes for the suffering associated with them. But there is hope. A wide range of therapies exist and access to them is widespread. Trauma survivors are best served by working with a therapist or therapy that is trauma-focused or trauma-informed.

Here at Avante Recovery Center, we employ a broad amount of therapy modalities. For further information regarding how our clinical team can help with you or a loved one’s trauma, contact Avante Recovery Center today at 801-341-0009.
